Nirvana + Meat Puppets + Digital Cameras = noisephotography.com

The above photo I took is of Krist Novoselic of Nirvana and Kurt Kirkwood of the Meat Puppets playing in Buffalo, New York in 2002 for a very short lived band called Eyes Adrift.

The main reason I am posting this photo is because it is a tie in with last weeks Spiritualized post. This Eyes Adrift show was one of the first I shot with a digital SLR camera and illustrates perfectly one of the early flaws with digital photography. The horrible "streaking grain" you see in the photo that was created by early digital SLRs was soon dubbed "noise" in photography circles and essentially described a horrible photograph. In case you are wondering....Yes, I had registered the domain name www.noisephotography.com prior to the term for "shit" photography being called "noise". But I'd like to take this moment to thank you all for the hits from google and other search engines each and every week looking for what the term noise in photography means!

Spiritualized @ the Kool Haus 2001

I shot this photo of Spiritualized @ the Kool Haus on October 29th 2001 in Toronto Canada. This photo is important to me because it was shot right before the newspaper I was working for at the time purchased the Nikon D1 digital SLR. I hate to say it but the "art" of shooting a live show was never the same again. Now most photographers fire off 500 shots at every exposure and go home happy everytime. Back in the day shooting a band like Spiritualized was like a final exam in exposure. Crazy light show, no flash, 3 songs, and a roll of 24.

The Germs -- Lorna Doom, Don Bolles, Pat Smear

The original line up of the Germs (L-R) Lorna Doom, Don Bolles, and Pat Smear. I took this photo on June 29th 2009 in Buffalo, New York -- during a very quick sound check. The show was opened by five drunk girls singing Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" a cappella. Also, Shane West of the television series "ER" and movie "A walk to remember" starring Mandy Moore sang in place of the dead Darby Crash.
